1. Who we are
Trama TecnoAmbiental (TTA), with headquarters in Barcelona (Spain), is an international engineering and consulting firm in business since 1986 in the field of renewable energies and specialized in distributed generation and energy access for development. TTA’s multidisciplinary team has comprehensive experience at both technical and management levels and has been exposed to many international projects all over the world.
TTA has been pioneer of renewable energy-based microgrids, 100% and/or hybrid, both in concept development, design, and engineering, as well as deployment and dissemination with a clear vision and an approach key to sustainability and social responsibility.
2. Job description and Responsibilities
TTA is seeking a Construction Supervisor (CS), specialized on renewable mini grid projects, to join the Technical and Construction Department of TTA. Under the supervision of the Construction Supervision Unit Leader, the Construction Supervisor will support the development of grid-connected and stand-alone renewable energy electrification projects in the Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) region, particularly Suriname. The job is especially focused on the design and supervision of solar hybrid plants, small and medium-sized, from tens of kWp up to a few MWp range as well as on low and medium voltage distribution line layout.
The Construction Supervisor will work in the following areas, listed according to priority:
- Supervision and Construction management: Planning of plant construction and supervision of works and interconnection, including eventual field work with the supervision of subcontractors for electrical, civil, mechanical work. Tight control of quality and timeline of small and medium sized projects up to a few MWp. Manage local teams and contractors and report to the manager.
- Owner’s engineering: Advisory services to Institutional and private clients on project development, construction and operation. Review and evaluation of technical proposals for the LAC region, including provision of support in the negotiations with winning bidders.
- Field Visits: Coordinate the field surveys to assess demand profile studies based on data gathered and field measurements and assess potential project sites for solar PV.
- Feasibility Studies: Support the preparation of technical and economic feasibility studies for Solar PV plants and mini-grid projects in the LAC region.
- Conceptualize technical solutions: Support the definition of technical solutions from the project and the client’s needs and liaise with the engineering department to define the concept designs.
- Procurement documents: Support the preparation of Technical Specifications for bidding documents, support the elaboration of administrative procurement documentation, and participation in tender evaluations.
- Plant design: Work in technical designs and simulations, in the range of tens of kW up to MW, calculation of electrical protections and conductor sizing, layouts, bill of quantities, drawings, and technical specification writing of renewable energy-based decentralized solutions. This includes but is not limited to stand-alone solar PV systems, mini-grid plants, energy storage, control and monitoring systems, grid-connected small PV plants, transformation, PV-pumping systems, and electromobility.
- Project proposal preparation: Support the Business Development department in preparing proposals for the LAC region, particularly technical methodologies, bills of materials, budgets, and technical drawings.
3. Profile
The ideal candidate for this position will have the following competences:
- Educational Background. A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or similar is required, a master’s degree is desirable but NOT mandatory.
- Previous Work Experience. Minimum 8 years of experience in PV plant construction, or construction project Management is required. Minimum 5 years of experience in works supervision of solar PV and/or other sustainable energy sources is required.
- Languages. Fluency in English and Dutch.
- Computer Skills. Advanced command of AutoCAD and simulation software like HOMER, Helioscope, or similar. Full competence in Office.
- Travel availability: The engineer should be willing to travel to project locations around the LAC region and, if needed, be based during more extended periods at project sites, to ensure a smooth implementation of works.
It would be desirable for the candidate to have the following aptitudes:
- Educational Background. Specific education in renewable energies, hydraulic systems mechanics, sustainable energy, and/or energy access will be an advantage.
- International Experience. Working internationally, especially in developing countries.
- Languages. Fluency in Spanish and Sranan Tongo is desirable.
- Previous Work Experience. Utility-scale PV plant design, stand-alone PV plant design, on-grid PV plant design, PV construction supervision.
- Interests. Passionate about renewable energy technologies, environmental stewardship, and social development.
- Computer Skills. Experience with power system analysis software e.g. Power Factory.
- Other Skills:
- Ability to work with minimum supervision and multiple project tasks simultaneously.
- Analytical skills, efficient designing and implementing of processes.
- Methodical and well-organized.
- Ability and proven experience to think creatively, learn quickly, and develop innovative solutions involving electrical and mechanical challenges.
- Cross-cultural communication and interpersonal skills.
